As the capstone project for this course, each student will complete a comprehensive Security Assessment & Incident Response Report for a simulated target organisation. This portfolio-ready project will demonstrate the full range of cybersecurity skills developed throughout the course and will include: a network reconnaissance and vulnerability assessment report documenting all open ports, services, and identified vulnerabilities on a target lab environment; a penetration testing report with documented exploitation attempts, proof-of-concept findings, and a risk rating for each identified vulnerability using the CVSS scoring standard; a web application security assessment identifying and documenting at least three OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities with remediation recommendations; a hardening checklist and security policy document for the target organisation covering operating system, network, and application security controls; and a complete incident response plan including detection procedures, containment strategies, communication templates, and a post-incident lessons-learned report. Students will present their findings in a professional security briefing format, as a cybersecurity analyst would when reporting to a client or management team.
